So I finally got to Montreal in time to get my board ready to race for tues. We woke up to overcast warm slightly rainy day….My favorite. I was pretty wiped out from my travels but I was still excited about it. But my excitement disappeared when I saw the course. The event was a PGS which means the turns are more wide open so more speed. This course was set more like a slalom which are smaller turns and well, honestly, it was not a good course for me. I knew that the people that were good in slalom were going to be the people that did well. And usually that is not me. I have been excited all year because my qualifying time have been really good. Not today. I qualified 8th. Not a place to be. The ideal place is the top 6. I rode better but not enough and I ended up 8th. And as I guessed the girls that were good in slalom were they ones that did well. yup ended up 8th. BOO!

After the PGS I wasn’t too excited about racing the slalom as history dictates that I don’t do well in slalom. Plus they were calling for rain, even better. The conditions were horrible and it was a game of survival. My first qualifying run was ok, i was in 5th. The conditions deteriorated so much from the first and second run that it was whoever could stand up the longest. I ended up qualifying 3rd. Very unusual for me. But I’ll take it.

The conditions never got any better. But for some reason I seemed to bet staying on my feet more than other people. I fell one run which dropped me into the round for 3 and 4. I somehow was able to stay on my feet as my competitor fell.  I was 3rd but the first American which means I am now the US SLalom Champion!!! unbelievable.
